Maybe I’m just behind the scene, but I had never heard of Gonnabe.com until recently. It’s actually a really cool site that lets kids and young people explore possibilities in the performing arts. If a kid wants to be a singer, actor, dancer, etc., he or she can use the site to showcase talents and network with people in the industry. They have job postings and classes, along with social networking features, too.

This may not seem like a huge deal, but when you consider the number of perverts in the world, it’s awesome that there’s somewhere safe for kids and their parents to check out the possibilities in the entertainment world. What do you think? Have you ever considered getting your kids involved in entertaining? Feel free to leave stories of your experiences or thoughts on Gonnabe.com in the comments.

Authors & Eyeglasses

I’ve noticed that a lot of authors wear eyeglasses - definitely a disproportionate amount, compared to the population as a whole. I have to wonder why that is, though. Is it that authors are smart and smart people are more likely to choose glasses? Is it that people with physical defects are more likely to become introspective and artsy? I don’t know. What do you think?

Finding Inspiration

Finding inspiration can be tough for a lot of writers, especially if you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere with no money to get out. Cheap flights can help, but what do you do if you just can’t get away to experience much? I’ve always tried to make my own adventure, but lately I’ve been contemplating the idea of a new blog dedicated to writing ideas. What do you think? Would you read it? Is it worth the effort?

Still Not Buying

Even though I’m not sure that I’ll be moving anytime soon, and even though the local real estate market is ideal for buying, I’m still holding off. Somehow, the idea of having to be responsible for dozens of potential repairs just isn’t appealing. I don’t want to be replacing a roof, a furnace, or a tankless water heater completely out of the blue.

But then again, it would be a lot cheaper on a monthly basis…I probably shouldn’t rule out the possibility.

Quirky Authors, Quirky Hygiene

Most people know that artsy types are a little odd, but some that I know are exceptionally weird. One girl I knew in college used udder balm for lotion and horse shampoo for her hair. Even though I grew up in a farming community, it never occurred to me to use cattle supplies on my own body.

Another girl that I used to live with (who is now a poet in NYC), would sleep with her shoes and coat on every night. I’m not sure why, but her clothing never smelled good.

Is it really impossible to make good art and still be normal?
