If you’ve ever had an interest in reading a book on women’s lingerie, you’ll want to buy An Intimate Affair is the book to get. With nearly 400 glossy pages, it would make a great coffee table book, too.
I recently came across the book at the local Barnes and Noble, where a quick flip through the pages revealed a surprising array of underthings. And here I thought I had seen it all. Ladies, this could be a fun book for your men this Valentine’s Day, especially if the two of you recreate a few of the scenes.
I can’t imagine what it would be like to be one of those crazy, starving New York City writer-types. Living paycheck to paycheck in low income jobs, dealing with insane rent and New York movers, crowding, traffic, and the general chaos…I don’t know, it’s just not for me. I like the comfort of being able to rent out a nice-sized house for less than 90% of my earnings. It’s quite nice.
And of course, with the internet, I can still work on a writing career - from the comfort of a nice house. Where do you live and write? Are you full-time or part-time?
It’s hardly unusual, given his prolific nature, but Stephen King has another book out. This one’s called Duma Key, and it’s about a construction executive’s period of rehabilitation after a very serious injury (not unlike King’s own injuries roughly a decade ago).
Duma Key will be the next thing on my reading list. For now, I have plenty of winter cleaning to do, along with some shopping and looking for Shutterfly coupons so I can print out Christmas photos. I don’t want to get into a new book until I’ve gotten some of the other things on my list done.
Even with the writer’s strike in full effect, most of the people I know are still buying things like popup tv lifts and watching 3-5 hours of television every day. It’s kind of strange when you think about it - staring at a single box in a room, rather than going out and living life. I like to mix it up a little.
Right now, it’s winter, of course, so there’s not much that can be done outdoors. I’m getting a lot of reading done. Right now, I’m in the middle of The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil. It’s nice to switch back and forth between fiction and non-fiction from time to time. You can learn a lot from both.
Because I like books, my family and friends tend to make a lot of assumptions about other things in my life. This post is intended to clear up a few of those misconceptions.
-As cool as cat furniture may be, I don’t need to receive cat furniture and toys for every holiday.
-Liking some books doesn’t mean that I’ll like all books, and it definitely doesn’t mean that I’ve read every book you care to mention.
-Liking books does not mean that I like coffee. I don’t.
-Ditto for hanging out in cafes with laptops and writing poetry.
Surely, you readers have some other pet peeves and false assumptions that come to mind. Share!
I’m not sure if it’s the winter weather, the Borders gift cards burning a hole in my wallet, or genuine excitement, but I’m really anxious to buy Atomic Lobster. For some strange reason, I have kind of an obsession with books and movies about older people. While other girls are dreaming about baby cribs and baby furniture, I’ve been busying enjoying Cocoon, Boynton Beach Social Club, and soon - Atomic Lobster.
The main character is a sexually active 91-year-old named “Edith Grabowski”. Talk about a perfect name. When you add in the geriatric roadtrip and detective action, I’m sold.
Have you ever been strangely into the idea of a book like this when it really makes no sense?
If you’ve ever wanted to write but didn’t feel like you had anything to say, my answer is simple - just travel. It doesn’t matter if you go somewhere foreign and exotic, or if you just take a roadtrip upstate. It will help. Just get in the car, grab your notepad or laptop, and go. If you only have a desktop, look into laptop rental. It’s that simple. If you change your environment, something interesting is bound to happen. It has never failed me.
Have you done it before? If so, please leave comments on your experiences! I’ll have more stories later, but I’ve been too busy with my “real” writing to say too much here.
If you do a lot of freelance work, or if you freelance full-time, you’re well aware of the awful tax penalties that you have to deal with. Without an employer to cover the other half, you end up feeling the sting that much more. On the bright side, you can use smart deductions to minimize those penalties.
The CarAngel Ministries is a non-profit company that makes educational videos for young people by using money that comes from donations. You can donate car, RV, boat, or house to their cause, and they’ll happily take it off your hands, even if it’s not running. In exchange, you get the knowledge that you’re helping a great cause, along with a sweet tax deduction. Check out the video below for an example of their work.
According to Yahoo!, the Pepperberg’s Parrot memoir due out later this year. I definitely can’t wait to read it, and I hope that they eventually make a movie, too (with full subtitle service, hopefully). I’m a huge parrot lover, so the whole story of his amazing talents is fascinating. His death was really upsetting, and I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose a parrot that soon. That’s especially true for one so incredibly bright and lively.
